Let's Review: Wind Watch Golf & Country Club

Hauppauge, New York

The Skinny

Wind Watch is about as good as it gets when it comes to a public course that’s about an hour drive out of Manhattan.

The Course

This course was designed by… let’s be real, you’re going to play even if it was designed by me.

I don’t know about you, but you know gets me going? Elevated tee boxes. It’s the only chance I have at coming close to sniffing a 300 yard drive and that’s exactly how the round starts at Wind Watch; a beautiful elevated Par 4 tee box. You’ll be about 130 yards on your second shot and wonder how a double bogey was the winning score on the hole as you drive to the 2nd tee. (tough green)

Toughest part of this course is the majority of the fairways are very narrow and met by trees or water on both sides. If there is one round where you don’t want be hitting from wrong fairway, it’s this course. Going to have to really get under a 60 degree to get over the trees or just take your medicine as you punch back onto the fairway.

The back 9 is beautiful and has a nice wide Par 4 to start and then a nice long drive to hole 11 to enjoy your hot dog or snickers you picked up at the halfway house.

Hole 12 is a really short Par 4 where a driver doesn’t really help you, but you know it’s coming out of the bag.

Lastly, the round ends with one of the more interesting holes I’ve ever played; a dog leg left Par 4 that feels like it’s on a 60 degree angled hill. You can’t see the green until you are about 30 yards away and the flag stick is like 15 feet tall.

The Price

Morning Tee Times on the weekends are $130 and go down to $105 as you approach the afternoon. On weekdays, tee times are $89. Very fair price for the quality of course you get to play.

Grabbing a Bite

There is a cart girl who drives around and a halfway house to pick up food during the round. Last time I played here, we left immediately, but there is a grill and patio that looked very nice.

Nice to Know

Last time I played, they didn’t have yardages on the cart and I had to download the golf shot app because we didn’t have a range finder. So I’d recommend bringing your range finder or a Garmin watch.

The driving range is adjacent to Hole 11 and you have to buy a range token from the pro shop.

How many sleeves: 3-4

There’s enough trees on the course to fill a forest and a decent amount of water hazards. Now thinking about this, teeter on 4 sleeves. Happy flag stick hunting.
