Let's Review: Stratton Mountain Golf Course
Stratton, Vermont
The Skinny
The 27-hole layout at Stratton Mountain is the pinnacle of fall golf in Vermont - mountainous elevations, forest and lake views, solid conditions and extremely friendly staff.

The Course
Most northeasterners know Stratton as one of the best and most accessible ski mountains in the area. But if you’re lucky enough to have visited Stratton in the spring and early fall season, you’ll find the 27-hole Stratton Mountain Golf Club laid out right before you enter the village of Stratton Mountain.
The club is split into 3 9’s - Forest, Lake, and Mountain. Each 9 is aptly named and flex their titular characteristics well.
Mountain certainly boasts the most exaggerated elevation, naturally, but all feature their own verticality that offer some incredible views of the lake and forest beneath.
The Lake 9 plays around a massive lake (duh) and almost never leaves your sight for that side, while the Forest 9 is tucked amongst the best foliage Vermont has to offer.
The Price
The price tag isn’t exceptional in its value (coming in around $120-$150 for a weekend round) but I have to recommend paying this course a visit if you’re visiting the area on vacation, which is pretty likely.
There is pretty good availability since there are 27 holes available, and lodging guests are offered a discounted rate vs. your standard daily rate.
Signature Hole
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think Lake 3 is probably my favorite hole on the course. A dog-leg left, it’s not more than a hybrid to the middle of the fairway, but making that turn and seeing the lake behind the green is your first really great view of it on that 9.
I’d be remiss not to mention the longest hole at the course, Mountain 5, which starts you way uphill, playing down to a narrow fairway with trouble in front, another layup zone, then a well protected green. Easy to make a mess of this one but an amazing view of the course from up top.

Grabbing a Bite
Hit up Mulligan’s (or The Drift if it’s nice out) and have some bar food and beer near the mountain before or after your tee time.
Nice to Know
Driving range was getting a facelift on our visit but it’s there. Golf carts are properly equipped.
If you’re trying to get a little rowdy and/or settle a bet after tying your match, go down the stairs of Mulligans and gamble all your money away in pool at the Green Door Pub.
How many sleeves: 1-2
Not a particularly thin course - you will usually just end up in the next fairway - but the sheer amount of leaves on the ground can make it a huge pain in the ass to find your ball, even if you’re barely off the fairway.
